The history of the Travesía a Nado El Río began in 1993, when around 50 swimmers first took on the challenge of swimming across the strait between Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
Since then, the event has grown into an unmissable gathering for open water swimming enthusiasts in the Canary Islands. In 2026, it reaches its 30th edition, celebrating over three decades of history connected to sports and the sea.
Participants will cover the 2.6 kilometers between Bajo El Risco in Lanzarote and Caleta de Sebo in La Graciosa, crossing the spectacular Chinijo Archipelago Marine Reserve, a high-value protected natural area. For the locals of La Graciosa, it is also a very special date on the island's calendar: a day when Caleta de Sebo is filled with excitement, visitors, and sporting spirit.
